Abstract

Physiologic micturition has been observed in 3 patients with vesical tumors who underwent total cystoprostatovesicutectomy, followed by construction of substitute bladders from isolated bowel segments (an ileal segment in 1 case and sigmoid segments in 2 cases) anastomosed to the urethra. The 2 patients of advanced vesical carcinoma died 8 and 18 months postoperatively, but the remaining one of multiple papillomatosis has been alive up to date 8 years postoperatively. It suggests that the sigmoid bladder is a useful method at the present time for urinary reconstruction following total cystectomy in certain selected cases to adapt them to the social life with "dry" condition, especially expecting competent uretero-sigmoid anastomosis.
